I was given a phone for my new job yesterday, and it has been a treat to have TWO ways for people to reach me off-line. I am a cell phone hold out, who really only uses my phone when I need to. Now that I have a work phone, I can't be so selective about my usage. I also keep thinking about those old-time telephone operators (my grandma was one). How they kept it all in line is beyond me!

Hi Kim. I'm old enough to actually remember Ernestine (some of Lily's best work) sitting at her desk and plugging in all those wires to connect phone lines. I still don't understand how it worked but thank goodness for satellites.
I wrote a post for you just now and I hope that you get a chance to read it before you get too far into the teaching grind.
